動物は自然に生きて、自分次第の生活ができる。しかし、我々の生活に組み込まれると、選択がなくなるだろう。動物と人間の違いは自分の運命を決める権利の有無だと思う。
（The animals, living in the nature, are able to survive on their own. However, including them into our lives, their choices are gone, aren't they? I think the difference between animals and humans is whether there is a right to choose one's destiny.)
我々が動物をどんなに扱っているかが重要な問題だ。動物実験はもちろんひどいが、ペットに愛情を与えるならいいけど、ペットを虐待する無責任な人を見ると腹が立つ。動物の立場から考えると、それはどれほど残酷なことか。
(How we treat the animals is an important matter. Experiments involving animals are of course awful, it's good if love is given to animals, but looking at irresponsible people mistreating animals made us furious. From the shoes of the animals, how cruel that is.)
一方、表情がでない植物はどうだろう。我々は美しいバラと地味な草を比べたら、バラを大切にするが、草は簡単に踏んでしまう。植物にまで偏見があるなんて、信じられない。それに、気づいてから、驚いた。
(At the same time, how about plants that cannot show expressions? If we compare lovely roses to plain grasses, we valued roses, but we easily stepped on those grasses. We even have prejudice against plants, that's unbelievable. Furthermore, shock came after noticing that.)
サーカスでは動物に恐ろしく危険なことをさせるが、それはよくないと思う。正直、人間を楽しませるという目的なんて、なっとくできない。一方で、動物園の場合、あまり危険がないから、いい。しかも、子どもに動物に関しての知識を伝えられるし、扱い方を教えられる。
(At the circus, putting animals to dangerous risks, I think that is not good. Frankly speaking, the aim to entertain humans, I cannot comprehend. On the other hand, in the case of zoos, as it is not that risky, it's alright. Moreover, we are able to convey animal-related information to the children and able to teach on the ways of handling.)
日々の糧として、動物の命をもらうとき、動物があまり苦しまない状況で殺すほうがいい。感謝の気持ちも忘れないことは当たり前のことだ。動物がいないと、動物の代わりに、我々が死ぬだ。
(As our daily food, when we take the lives of the animals, it is better to kill them in the situation with less suffering. Without forgetting to be thankful to them is also natural. Without the animals, in their replacement, it will be death.)
この世界は、動植物に対して、まだまだ色んなやらなければならないことがある。どんな理由だろうと、動物が必要される限り、仕方がないから、どうやってその生き物をもって優しく扱うか考えらなければならない。その解決法が分かれば、動植物と本当の「共存・共生」ができると思う。
(This world, in regards to the plants and animals, there are still many things to be done. No matter what reasons there are, as long as we need the animals, as there is no choice, we have to think on how to treat the living things better. Once we know this solution, I think we can truely be able to "coexist" with plants and animals.)
